COMMON EV MYTHS
EVs catch fire
In fact, your petrol or diesel car is more likely to burst into flames (but even then the risk is very low). The Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency (MSB) reported 23 fires in 611,000 EVs during 2022, or 0.004% in a year. That is 20 times less likely to happen than internal combustion engine car fires (3,400 incidents in 4.4 million cars, or 0.08 per cent).
Charging points have long queues
First things first - the range of an EV is much, much higher than the average journey you're likely to take in one. UK government data shows 99% of car journeys are less than 100 miles. The average EV range in the UK is over 200 miles, with more expensive models reaching 300 miles. So the chances are that, even if you do find a queue at an EV charging point, as long as you don't leave it until your battery percentage is in single digits, you should have plenty of range to find one that's not busy.
You can also use apps like Zap Map to find charging locations that have multiple chargers - anything from three or four to over 30, making it much more likely that you'll be able to find one available straight away.
