ATA ACCREDITATION

Backed by the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI), the professional association for individuals in the motor industry, Automotive Technician Accreditation is a national voluntary scheme which tests the current competence of individuals working in the retail motor industry, who are committed to an ethical code of conduct.

The Institute is the Sector Skills Council for the automotive retail industry and the governing body for the Automotive Technician Accreditation (ATA) scheme.

The ATA Accredited Scheme was launched in 2005 and by 2010 there were more than 26,000 accredited individuals on the accreditation register. ATA is an industry standard benchmark of competence. An ATA accredited individual has proven their capability at performing the job in their particular specialism. To achieve an ATA accreditation, an individual must pass a combination of knowledge and practical assessments and agree to abide by an ethical Code of Conduct. The code provides both individuals and motorists with a standard of behaviour that is regulated by the IMI. This is the ATA Code of Conduct by which all ATA automotive technicians must operate.
